A ride in a mine car and a brisk descent down the long wooden slides
once used by the miners are just some of the attractions the tour offers.
Through narrow tunnels and cavernous chambers,
past glistening rock formations mutely bearing their centuries-old mysteries,
the visitor's route eventually reaches the underground salt lake.
The fascinating play of sound and light during the raft ride across the lake
accentuates the unique enchantment of this world below the ground.
The Hallein-Bad Dürrnberg salt mine is the oldest mine in the world open to the
public -
documents giving accounts of guided tours date back to around 1600 - and, since
June, 1995,
it is also the site of the world's first "Gallery in the Salt."
Here, artists are offered the opportunity to display their works in a wondrous
setting.
We're looking forward to seeing you!
